Working as a camp counselor in the US is the best way to spend your summer, and doing so with Student Travel has many benefits.
Minimum wage of $2000 for the entire stay
You’ll receive a total salary of at least $2,000 for your work. If the camp hires you for a longer period, the camp will pay you an extra $35 for each additional day. Additionally, if you have a lifeguard certification or certification to work with people with special needs, you can negotiate an additional salary supplement with your camp! Room and board are included during your work at camp, so with this salary you can cover the program costs and travel after camp to explore the United States and… why not?
The best summer of your life
Live like an American movie! You’ll spend 8-10 weeks at an American camp surrounded by nature, with incredible facilities and people from all over the world—AND YOU’RE PAID! You’ll be in charge of eager campers, and you’ll spend the best summer of your life working as a counselor or specialist in an activity you excel at: soccer, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, golf, etc. It’s the perfect combination for a very special summer you’ll never forget.
Travel and enjoy
You’ll be able to explore the United States during your free days and for 30 days after the end of your camp contract. You’ll be able to travel with your new friends from around the world throughout the USA with your J1 visa and the money you earned at camp.
Perfect your English
To participate in the program, your English level must be upper-intermediate to be able to communicate with the campers and counselors. Additionally, you’ll live in a native environment and speak English 24/7, providing you with a linguistic and cultural immersion that will help you improve your English by 200%. Remember: you do not need any qualifications or certificates to participate. We will conduct a brief FREE interview to verify your eligibility. Try it!
Give your professional career a boost
Not only will you return with incredible experience and lifelong friends, but you’ll also have a key element on your CV for many companies: you’ll have worked in the United States for two or more months.
Remember: you do NOT need a Leisure Activities Instructor certification. During the phone interview, we’ll check if you meet the requirements to become an instructor. Although if you do, even better. Every little bit counts!

Camp USA
There are thousands of camps in the United States, all unique and different.
At camp, the day is filled with activities, moments of happiness, but also moments of relaxation and quieter leisure. You won’t be bored, and you’ll definitely have the summer of your life.
Traditional camps
The most numerous and typical. The one you've probably seen in a movie, with wooden houses, surrounded by nature, and offering all kinds of activities: water sports, arts, and crafts.
Private camps
Many are all-girls or all-boys, although some are co-ed. These camps offer a wide variety of sports or artistic activities, sometimes at a high level. They are camps with a strong tradition, as many have been running for decades. The children who attend these camps usually come from wealthy families.
Family Camps
Camps that attract not only children but also their parents. It's a very common activity for families from upper-middle-income families.
Camps for children with special needs
Camps for children with specific needs, whether physical or mental. Staff members receive tailored training tailored to the campers they host, as well as a $100 bonus.
Camps for children in disadvantaged situations
These camps are for children from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. Many campers receive scholarships if their families cannot afford the fees. These camps are typically run by non-governmental organizations like the YMCA, which rely on donations and scholarships. They offer the same activities as other camps, although in some cases with more basic facilities.
Religious camps
These camps combine the activities of traditional camps but integrate the camp's religious beliefs. The level of religious involvement of the camp leaders varies from camp to camp, and most camps are Christian or Jewish.
