The Islander is a retail souvenir store located in Port Aransas on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. There is surfing, fishing, and other beach fun only about 2 kilometers from the housing. It does get hot here, about 32-34, and it is very humid, but the sun shines almost all summer.

At the Islander, we ring up sales, print transfers on t-shirts, stock, greet customers. There is a two week training period for new staff members. We try to have an event every other week to build camaraderie. It can be a beach bonfire, movie night, or a baseball game. We have a July 4th party where we watch the fireworks. I also try an take students on one bigger excursion to somewhere else in Texas. In the past we have gone on trips to NASA, SeaWorld, river tubing in San Marcos, or Schlitterbahn Water Park.
