About Centerplate Steamship Authority:
Centerplate is a recreational food service business operating throughout the U.S., Canada, Hawaii, and in various countries around the world. Centerplate food services can be found at ski resorts, stadiums (both NFL, college, and major league baseball), transportation areas, convention centers, and museums, to name a few! Here at Centerplate-Steamship Authority on Cape Cod, Massachusetts we operate the “Grab & Go”concession counters on the Steamship Authority ferry vessels.
No matter where you work throughout our organization you’ll be helping the Steamship Authority serve as a lifeline to the beautiful islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket helping us provide transportation to island residents and visitors alike.
Job Descriptions: All positions will make $12.75/hour, paid weekly. There is a drug test upon arrival.
Counter Help: Counter help at our “Grab & Go” concessions on board the Steamship Authority ferry
vessels traveling to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket islands. Serve soups, sandwiches, snacks, pastries, and beverages to our guests. There are 19 positions available.
Delivery: Take in deliveries from our vendors, stock shelves, rotate products, fill orders from our ferry concessions, ride with our drivers to deliver food products to our „Grab & Go” concessions on board the ferry vessels, assist in our kitchen as needed, keep our commissary clean. Heavy lifting. Shifts begin early in the morning and end late in the afternoon. There are 4 positions available.
Kitchen Help: Prepare sandwiches, salads, soups, pastries, packaging, that we sell on board the
ferries at our „Grab & Go” concession counters, keep kitchen and dishware clean and organized. Shifts
begin early in the morning and end in the late afternoon. There are 5 positions available.
Work Hours: You should expect to work 35 – 40 hours per week throughout the summer. Hours are full time and the schedule includes varied shifts. The schedule is published one week in advance. There is opportunity for overtime hours.
Work Start Dates: You should plan your U.S. arrival so you can begin working May 1 – June 30.
Work Finish Dates: We are looking for candidates who can finish working August 31 – October 15. We will ask you ahead of time what your last day of work is for our planning purposes. You should be as upfront and honest as possible about your work finish date. It is customary in the U.S. to give at least two weeks notice of your final day of work.
Uniform: Uniform shirts are provided. Bring a good pair of sneakers (any color), light tan cotton pants or knee length shorts, Capri, or ankle style. Please, no facial or tongue piercings, or exposed body piercings. Tattoos on the arms and legs are acceptable. All other tattoos must be covered. Long hair for both women and men must be tied back. Men with beards and/or mustaches must have the beard and/or mustache trimmed to ½ inch.
Interviews Format: We are able to interview and hire friend groups, but not couples.
Housing Information: Employee housing is a house with a house manager on property. Shared
bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, common area, and WiFi are included. Rent is $125.00 cash per week. The security deposit is $200.00 cash upon arrival . The security deposit is refundable if rent is paid in full and there is no damage or unclean conditions left by Exchange Visitors. We also work with local landlords for room rentals. Private landlord housing generally offers shared bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen privileges and WiFi. Most private landlords also charge about $125.00 per week, cash payment. Private landlords may also have a refundable housing deposit at about $200.00 or less, cash, upon arrival. Distance from housing is generally about 1-2 miles away. You can walk, bicycle, or take the bus or trolley.
Cape Cod and the Islands offer beautiful beaches, water sports, a national seashore, famous lighthouses, quaint towns, great restaurants and shopping boutiques, museums, such as The Whaling Museum on Nantucket and the JFK museum in Hyannis, whale watches, and even celebrity sightings. Cape Cod also has a large mall located in Hyannis, and movie theaters, both large and small. You can also easily visit Boston. Favorite locations to visit are, Harvard, MIT, JFK Library, and several Boston Museums and landmarks.
